Durairaj Star Cast: Srikanth, Sonia Agarwal Music by Vidyasagar Editing by Suresh Urs Sathurangam is a Tamil action film directed by Karu Pazhaniappan, starring Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal. The film's background score was composed by Vidyasagar, and his soundtrack was released in 2004. Filming was completed in 2006 but the film remained unreleased for five years. In September 2011, reports emerged that the film was set to be revived and touted to be released on the 6th October as per internet sources. Srikanth's character in the film is named after Thirupathisamy, the late director of the films Azad and Narasimha, who was Karu Pazhaniappan's close friend. Sathurangam review With the reports of reviving the release of the film the director Karu Pazhaniappan said he was happy and thrilled that finally the movie will hit the screens and it is a gripping tale with Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal giving their best. He opined that though it has come late, it would appease masses and the music by Vidyasagar is an added highlight. He further mentioned of the relief that the movie is hitting the screens at least now. Sathurangam review How would you feel if you were left to play Chess with 48 squares instead of the 64? That’s how you feel while watching Sathurangam, starring Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal in the film directed by Karu Pazhaniappan. In this simplistic tale of how Srikanth finds the kidnappers of Sonia Agarwal, which happens halfway through the movie, precisely before the interval, the first half is good in patches while the second half falls flat to commercial formula. Sathurangam review Srikanth travels without ticket on a bus and gets caught by the Checking Inspectors. When asked to pay the fine of Rs. 500, he says, he has no money and that was, he didn’t buy tickets and when taken to the mobile court, he is asked to pay Rs. 1500. He says, he did not have Rs. 500 and hence was taken to the court and so he cannot pay Rs. 1500. The judge sentences him for 15 days imprisonment. Inside the prison, he finds a lot about what happens behind the four or many walls of the prison. He writes about all of them and publishes in the magazine Thisaigal. The 15 day imprisonment is a sting operation. Srikanth works as an investigative journalist. The Jail Superintendent loses his job and a Minister too is kicked out for which Srikanth becomes responsible. Sathurangam review A lot of political and industrialist bigwigs lose their money because of Srikanth. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Sonia Agarwal and they both come close to their marriage. That is when she is kidnapped. Srikanth runs behind and chases the vehicle in vain. Now, he is confused as to who kidnapped her. There are many people, about 37, who were affected by his undercover sting operation journalism. Now, the game is on to find out who kidnapped. Srikanth is taken on a ride by the kidnapper. Will Srikanth find out who kidnapped and save Sonia Agarwal? Go to the theaters (!) to find out more. The film is released after about five years which the theater print shows. Even the Central Prison shown in the movie is outdated by the change of the location to Puzhal in the real world. Logical loopholes stare at you straight in your face. How come when Policemen don’t even allow you to smoke in railway premises, there happens a shootout, kidnap and murder? People watch surrounding them forgetting they have trains and places to go. Srikanth performs a stunt and the villains all fall like nine pins and all policemen are on leave that day. There are enough scenes to really catapult the viewer into the narrative. The songs dampen the tempo, when things take interesting turns. If he had averted the logical loopholes, the film could have scored well and audience would enjoy, despite being a late release. There is enough to think about and engage audiences in but things fail to make an impact due to the shoddy climax and sacrificed logic.
